Folks:

This morning, 8/14/2002, Jim Danzenbaker was first at the flats in the
northeast corner of the large pond at the Sunnyvale WPCP and found two
juvenile RUDDY TURNSTONES where one was seen yesterday. Later, I saw them as
well. They appear to be working one area immediately east of the smaller of
the two large clumps of tules/cattails out on the mud. As others have noted,
these "turnmuds" are turning over pieces of dried mud and feeding on whatever
shows up. An adult GREEN HERON was in the channels near the entrance.

Neither Jim nor I saw the Common Tern found yesterday. As I was
leaving, Roland Kenner and Pat Kenny were on their way out to the ponds to
search for this tern.

      					Bill

A late afternoon visit (14 Aug 02) to State and Spreckles in Alviso turned
up an adult female RUFF. This is probably the same bird seen at CCFS a few
weeks ago. It is now almost completely in basic plumage. There are still a
few dark alternate feathers in the breast and upperparts. At least 6 LESSER
YELLOWLEGS were here with a much larger number of GREATERS. A handful of
WILSON'S PHALAROPES remain as well. Rounding out the notables were 3
WHIMBRELS and a MARBLED GODWIT.
